How We Investigate Complaints

The process starts with the selection of a Consumer Complaint or a Criminal Complaint.

Consumer complaints are non-criminal actions affecting consumers and their rights.

Consumer investigations usually focus on scams, bait and switch schemes, etc.

Criminal complaints and investigations are generally arrestable offences, either misdemeanor or felonies.

These investigations are considered long-form stories and are assigned to senior Investigative Reporters.

While most internet based consumer websites allow the consumer to post their complaint with no verification of the facts complaint or story, INC does not.

All complaints are assigned to an Investigative Reporter who will look for patterns of other similar complaints coming in to our news desk.

While we investigate all of the complaints submitted to us, not all complaints become stories that are broadcast on the network.

Some of the criteria we look for in a story, is a large number of complaints against a company or individual.

  • How Egregious is the act.
  • Does the perpetrator have a history of criminal behavior or scams?
  • Large dollar amounts stolen from consumers.
These are just a few of the elements used in determining if a story merits broadcast on the network.
